What is Endovenous Ablation?
Endovenous ablation is a procedure that uses heat energy to eliminate unhealthy veins. The unhealthy veins that cause vein disease typically are a few centimeters deep within your legs. Their function is to move blood in one direction, from your feet towards your heart. When the valves within these veins break, blood goes back down in the wrong direction. How Does Endovenous Ablation Work?
Laser removal of varicose veins consists in inserting the optical fiber inside the malfunctioning vessel, up to its outlet. Then it is slowly pulled out. This "closing a vein from the inside" uses the phenomenon of light absorption in the blood hemoglobin in the diseased blood vessel. The energy generated in this process causes the diseased vein to contract and then close. Over time, there is fibrosis of the vein and spontaneous disappearance. Thus, the inconvenience of surgical intervention and surgical removal of the vein can be avoided.
The entire procedure takes 15-30 minutes and in most vein centers you are wide awake and completely comfortable. There is no downtime; and you can return to work the very same day.
